What are Ingrown Toenails?
An ingrown toenail is when the nail on the foot grows into the surrounding skin instead of growing straight out. Usually, common with the big toe but it can happen to any toenail.
It can cause:
- Pain or tenderness around the nail
- Redness and swelling
- Pus which is a sign of infection
- Difficulty wearing shoes or walking
The Common causes of ingrown toenail include tight shoes, improper nail trimming, trauma to the toe, extra pressure on the nail pushing the skin into the nail and some are naturally predisposed to ingrown toenail.
Many people try home remedies like soaking the toe or trimming the nail but ingrown toenails often come back or worsen if not treated properly. In people with diabetes or circulation issues, they can even lead to more serious foot complications.
That is why it’s important to seek professional treatment.
Flawless Esthetics Clinic specialises in nail surgery known as Total Nail Avulsion (TNA) or Partial Nail Avulsion (PNA) for clients with severe nail problems. The procedure is carried out to the highest health and safety standards and we will make sure that everything is fully explained to you beforehand so that you are fully comfortable with the procedure. Before surgery, our professional doctors or Podiatrist will complete a pre-surgery assessment. The procedure is completed under local anaesthetic with all or part of the nail being removed, including the growing area at the base. A chemical is then used to stop the nail from regrowing if necessary.
